Online Book Club Session 11

Online Book Club Session 11

For our 11th Online Book Club session we will be taking a seasonal approach, by looking closely at the first Nettleford book: All Summer Through

The book introduces us to the main characters, Sally, Paul, Elizabeth and Jimmy, who form a club: The Owlers. Mrs Richardson is asked to look after her stuck up nephew, Tony, for three weeks during the summer holidays and eventually Tony proves his worth and is allowed to join the club.

The children go to nearby Northend Farm to camp, where they assist in bringing in the harvest and then help, when fire is discovered. The children then organise a party for two lonely invalids, before going off to to Tenby for a holiday, where they rescue a boy who has been blown over a cliff. At the end of the book, the children perform a show.

For those interested in the Nettleford series, we recommend Rowena Edlin-White's article Nettleford Revisited in Acksherley! issue 14.

All Online Book Club sessions begin at 19:30 and take place on Zoom.

New members are always welcome: please note that, although there is a core of regular attenders, not everyone joins every session - you can pick and choose, according to your own interests and availability!
