Booking is now open for February Ramblings 2026

Our activities, based in the Church Stretton area of South Shropshire, which features in various Lone Pine adventures, will include a full day’s walking on Saturday, and again for much of Sunday.

Evening meals will be in Stretton pubs on Friday and Saturday, and there will also be an early evening pub meal on Sunday.

The Saturday walk is about 8 miles and will include ascending Caer Caradoc, starting from Church Stretton. Caer Caradoc (459m/1,506ft), was described by Bill Ward in Mystery at Witchend as “like a crouching lion” and by Saville as ‘grim and crowned with rocks’. Its ancient hill fort is thought to date from either the Iron Age or late Bronze Age.

It's certainly a stiff climb to the top, but one worth the effort for the spectacular views across the surrounding Shropshire countryside – if we’re lucky with the weather. Caer Caradoc rises sharply out of a narrow valley known as the Stretton Gap. It is the highest point on a high, narrow, northeast–southwest "whaleback ridge". We will also look out for Caradoc’s cave, near the summit, and we will include a couple of the nearby hills as well.

The Sunday walk will be around 7 miles, beginning in an area of the Long Mynd.
