Malcolm Saville Society ‘Café Event’ 2

Malcolm Saville in the media!
Our second Malcolm Saville Café event took place by Zoom, with presenter Mike McGarry, co-author of Malcolm Saville's Bibliography.
Mike undertakes a great deal of research related to Saville's life and work. He had unearthed numerous references, recordings and old films that contributed greatly to his fascinating, illustrated talk about works that have been turned into radio, film and TV productions and, also, the author himself in the media.
Among other references, Mike introduced us to Lone Pine books serialised on BBC Children's Hour, including child actors such as Charles Hawtrey and Peter Mullins, from the 1940s. He played us an early performance from Petula Clark as a child actor in the film Trouble at Townsend, made at Westend Farm in 1946. He had followed up links, such as the one that led to a recent interview with child actor, Richard Palmer, star of another early Saville film, Treasure at the Mill.
There was so much more - and it all made for a great second Saville Café event. Mike was then happy to answer questions in the discussion that followed.
The recording of the event is viewable on the VIDEO LIBRARY page in the MEMBERS AREA of the Society website.
